
I have over twelve years experience working in the TV and film industries producing bespoke original scores that both dove-tail with the project and break new ground, soundtracks that do the job but have their own integrity and beauty.
I use real instruments and the latest software (Kontakt 5, Battery, Massive, Kore, SampleTank, Miroslav Philharmonik, Omnisphere, Ra, Stormdrum) combined with found natural sounds and textures to help directors, producers and editors realise their vision and bring out the meaning of images and narrative as originally and creatively as possible.
My approach to composing music for TV drama, documentary and film is simple: don't just aim to do the job, although this is important - aim to do the job sublimely. Push limits. Expand the scope of what is possible. Tailor what you are doing precisely to the project whilst adding as much as you can.
At its best, incidental music expresses the meaning of the scene, drives the narrative, communicates mood, emotion, personality and place, naturalizes and motivates the images. Often, less is more. To these ends, I have been successfully composing original music for 4 out of 5 of the UK's terrestrial TV channels for well over a decade.
